Water Damaging the Floor and Contents

Unfortunately, water damage and flooding are extremely common in basements. New York basements are especially vulnerable to flooding from burst pipes, rain, and sewage leakages. Upon her return home we came to perform EMS and assess the damage and contamination that occurred.  

Our crew placed the necessary equipment in the basement to handle the loss. Water extractors, dehumidifiers, and air movers to remove water were quickly deployed, and we also removed base molding.  While going through the basement our crew discovered a lot of content. We took an inventory of all the content, then we placed a 20-yard dumpster out in front of the street to dispose of all damaged property. All removed and damaged belongings were accounted for by insurers.

Containment needed to be set up on the door to the basement. Then, we assessed the customer’s vents to see if they were affected. Unfortunately, the customer’s vents were affected. We scheduled an appointment with our duct cleaning/ HVAC division, then covered the vents in the basement. Our crew had to remove the carpet and padding, while the content is being manipulated. Two-foot flood cuts were made all around the room and base trim was removed. Additionally, SERVPRO of Southern Staten Island performed any general cleaning that was necessary to restore the basement to its original state and to make sure the environment is safe and healthy.
